What is Mindfulness and how can it help?
Mindfulness is about doing one thing, fully. It is about cultivating awareness so that we notice what’s going on around us, in our bodies, and in our minds. With this awareness we can consciously choose what to think about, what action to take and what pace to follow. This can help us to stay in the present moment, rather than being stuck in the past or worrying about the future. Mindfulness is about being rather than doing.
Mindfulness can help with a variety of health and wellbeing areas, from depression and anxiety to sleep quality and pain, to the effects of menopause and improved relationships. Mindfulness encourages calm and relaxation, having a positive impact on stress, which can in turn help with many other health and wellbeing complaints. Thousands of studies showing how mindfulness can impact different areas of health have been conducted, and further, more detailed studies are underway into the impact it can have on specific conditions.

What to expect from a mindfulness session(s)
Whether you choose to learn and practice mindfulness one to one or as part of a group, face to face or online, or as a personal plan or a course or event, the basics and the structure is the same... Each mindfulness session will start with introductions. There will be a structure based around information, meditations, contemplation, enquiry and discussion. In a group setting, you will always have chance to speak, but there is no pressure to do so. You are much more likely to get more from the sessions if you are able to contribute to discussions, even if not in the first session or two. Meditations will be recorded, so you will have something to take away from each session, in addition to written information and worksheets. There is an element of home practice, which is crucial to understanding and developing mindfulness. This is likely to take no more than 15 - 30 minutes a day, or even five if that is all you can fit into your other commitments.

Mindfulness options:
Individual Sessions One to one mindfulness sessions can be useful for people who struggle with groups or who want to tailor the mindfulness practices and discussions more directly to their own lives and situations. Individual sessions last one hour and tailor information, meditations, contemplation and discussions to the individual's needs and goals. These may be around their own health, personal development, or spiritual growth. |
Mindful Nature These sessions are held outside. We will walk through nature, with a mix of teaching, discussion, and meditation practice as we go. Getting outside to practice mindfulness is a great way to reconnect to nature whilst learning and practising techniques to let go of stress and worry, creating mental space for yourself, as well as to recover from illness, pain and discomfort. Available as individual and group sessions. For information on the latest groups, take a look at the Events and Offers page, and sign up to the mailing list to receive updates. |
Group Mindfulness Programmes Mindfulness group programmes follow a course of themes, starting with an introduction to mindfulness, and building to longer meditations, health information and discussions. The benefit of learning and practising mindfulness in group is hearing others' experiences, learning from others' successes and problem solving, and in being with like minded people working towards similar aims. It can feel comforting and less lonely to hear how others struggle with similar issues and to come away with more ideas on how to tackle these. |
Group Drop Ins Drop in sessions are informal - you can turn up to them as they fit your schedule. Each session is independent and will cover various aspects of mindfulness, meditation, information, contemplation and discussion. Sometimes there will be a theme to the session. Suggestions of themes are always welcome. You will need to have some experience of mindfulness, and to have completed a brief intake consultation to attend the drop in sessions. |
Themed Mindfulness Sessions and Events There are frequently themed mindfulness sessions, programmes and events. These range from mindfulness for certain groups, topical and seasonal sessions, and retreats. All events will be listed on the News, Events and Offers page, and advertised on facebook and instagram.
